Response to the sentencing of Newcastle grooming gang members.
Katharine Sacks-Jones, Director of Agenda, says: “It is really important that the girls and young women in this horrific case get justice. That means justice in the court but also getting the support they need to help them rebuild their lives
“Thousands of women and girls who have experienced violence and abuse are deeply traumatised and face multiple problems, like low self-esteem, poor mental health and they may use drugs and alcohol to cope.
“They need support and protection but time and again they are let down by a system that fails to help them.
“That’s why it is vital that we invest in services that support women and girls to address what they have experienced so that they can rebuild their lives and fulfil their potential.”
