Agenda’s response to NHS England’s new sexual assault strategy, including life-long counselling for those who have experienced sexual assault.
Agenda’s Director Katharine Sacks-Jones says: “We welcome NHS England’s announcement of improved mental health support for those who have experienced sexual assault.
“More than half of women with a mental health problem has experienced some form of abuse.
“Too many have struggled to get the help they need, which can have a devastating impact on the rest of their lives, with some turning to drugs and alcohol to cope with the trauma.
“That is why we welcome in particular the plans for life-long mental health support.
“We now need to see a better understanding the impact of violence and abuse across mental health services so that women and girls get the support they need, when they need it.”
