Response to Office for National Statistic figures which shows one in four young women reported experiencing anxiety and depression.
Katharine Sacks-Jones, Director of Agenda, says: “The statistics paint an alarming and worsening picture of the state of young women’s mental health.
“Young women face a range of mental health issues from anxiety and depression, to self-harm and post-traumatic stress disorder.
“We know that women and girls, especially those with experience of violence, abuse and trauma, struggle to get the support they need from mental health services.
“Women and girls’ mental health has been ignored for too long, and if we are to avert a mental health crisis, the government must take action.
“Steps must be taken to ensure that women and girls’ needs and experiences are prioritised and taken seriously in mental health services.”
